Q&A with Enid’s Giander Martinez – Presented by Daniel Snyder Shelter Insurance

VYPE: What grade are you in and how long have you been involved in the band?

Giander: I am a senior at Enid High School and I have been a part of the band for seven years.

VYPE: Why did you choose to join the band?

Giander: I have always been into music and enjoyed playing instruments. I like to perform in front of people

VYPE: What has it taken to be successful as a member of the band?

Giander: A lot of work and patience. It can get stressful sometimes with different opinions but it all just comes down to being patient for it to all come together

VYPE: What has been the highlight moment during your time on the band?

Giander: Has to either be going on our Memphis trip  or going to St.Louis and getting 3rd place over a lot of bands from around the Missouri, Oklahoma region

VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when marching?

Giander: It’s really exciting being able to do all the hard work to represent Enid. It’s also cool showing up to the competitions and people just staring at our buses knowing Enid just showed up. I feel like the past bands have left a good name for the Enid band.

VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models in your life?

Giander: My dad is definitely someone I look up to. He shows me how it is for someone to work hard and strive to work for what you need

VYPE: What teacher has had the biggest impact on your life?

Giander: Mrs. Logan, my eighth grade English teacher, has had the biggest impact in my life. She always showed up to all of my school events supported everyone in what they did and she always worried about how I was doing and helped me get through middle school so I am thankful for her

VYPE: Who is your favorite person you follow on social media?

Giander: Russell Westbrook. Ever since I was a kid he has been my favorite basketball player and watching him go through so much hate but still leave a name for himself and being one of the best just inspired me to not worry what others say about me.
