Garrett Shull is a freshman phenom on the Enid baseball team, where he plays shortstop for the Plainsman. Shull bats 2-hole and leads the team in RBIs (43) and home runs (3). His play at shortstop and at the plate is a major reason the Plainsman were able to bounce back from their 3-10 start earlier this season in Class 6A. Since then, Enid has won 19 of its last 20 games and is on a 14-game winning streak.

At 6-foot, 175-pounds, Shull presents the tools and athleticism as a switch hitter at the plate and showcases an above-average arm and footwork at shortstop, according to coach Brad Gore. After seeing Shull perform throughout summer ball, Gore helped Shull get a head start on the recruitment process. Back in July, Shull verbally committed to Oklahoma State University before playing a single official high school game for the Plainsman. Shull is excited to continue improving before the 2024 prospect can officially sign as a junior.

“Hopefully I can go play at Oklahoma State because it’s an amazing opportunity,” Shull said. “Oklahoma is my home, so I wanted to stay in state. I’ve been around campus and just really like everything I saw.”

Shull credits his dad, Bryan, and coach Gore for his success on the baseball field.

“My dad has always been there and helped me with baseball since I was little,” Shull said. “Every day we watch videos together and figure out what I need to work on. Coach Gore is always putting the time in with me and all the other guys on the team.”

Shull’s favorite memory thus far was hitting a walk-off single in the 14th inning against Sand Springs this season.

For the past five years, Shull has helped coach his younger brother, Braden, and his baseball team every Saturday from May to July. Braden, 13, has cerebral palsy and plays in the Miracle League in Enid for kids and adults with special needs.

In his spare time, Shull enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
