The Enid Area Teacher of the Month is Timothy Lavoie from Enid High School. Mr. Lavoie started his teaching career three years ago at Enid High School where he currently teaches World History to the sophomore class. Also a coach, it was a fellow coach and educator who inspired Lavoie to get into teaching, along with members of Lavoie’s family. 

“My family have always believed I’d be a good teacher and encouraged me to try the profession. Additionally, Mr. Liddell, the current Enid High School principal whom I coached with at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, compared teaching to coaching just in a different environment,” said Lavoie.

There are many things about the job Lavoie enjoys, but seeing his student succeed has been the most rewarding part of the job so far. 

“Connecting with my students and learning what drives them toward their goals. When I see my former students’ growth and progress towards their ambitions, it makes teaching extremely gratifying,” said Lavoie. 

Teaching and coaching in Enid has been great for Lavoie. It’s a community he is proud to call home. 

“Enid has a fun, interactive community that is very supportive. I am very happy to be a part of the Enid community,” said Lavoie. 

Away from school you can usually find Lavoie spending time with his family, (Amanda, Theron, Ella & Kali), playing gold and watching the Arsenal play. 

Lavoie offers this advice to any student who feels the calling to become an educator. 

“Kids won’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. All my most influential teachers growing up weren’t necessarily the most renown experts in their fields, but they genuinely cared about me as a person and encouraged me to pursue my goals,” said Lavoie.
