Originally from Enid, Dana Alvarado is part of the Class of 1998 from Enid High School and now a mom of three, Dana is very involved in her kids’ activities at school.
“I love Enid for a number of reasons, and after moving to Texas for a couple of years we decided Enid is truly where we need to be to raise our kids,” Dana said. “We love the medium town feel and have a lot of family here in Enid. We knew we wanted our kids to be raised around our families and our longtime friends. Our family members own a number of businesses in Enid from housekeeping to lawn care, to dry cleaning. My husband Eloy and I have been married for 20 years; we have three kids. Our oldest son, Carlos (17), a junior at Enid High School is a State Champion and All-American wrestler, and a Football player. Next our son Adrian (15), a freshman at Enid High and also an avid wrestler. He also plays football. And our youngest, Elayna (7), is a second grader and is also now a wrestler in the youth program here in Enid.”
Dana volunteers as much of her time as she can. Currently she serves as treasurer on the Enid Wrestling Club board and has done so for three years.
“I volunteer all the time I can because I feel like the time that we get with our kids is very short. These moments do not repeat. My mom always worked and volunteered for everything I had going on and I think it was truly good for her and I and whatever school I was in,” Dana said. “I love people, and I am not shy or afraid, so I do a lot of fundraising for the wrestling program with my boys. I also work full time for Hann Plummer CPA firm here in Enid I am their receptionist as well as administrative assistant in a busy accounting firm that I have been with for almost five years now. My husband and I own a trucking company that I do bookkeeping for, called Elite Heavy Hauling, and we are in the process of building a great business.”
Like most programs, Enid athletics depends on people like Dana to volunteer their time for various activities. But even Dana admits it takes more than just a few moms to make it work.
“I really could not do all of it without my husband and all of the great coaches. Coach Trent Holland has taken on a huge task these last few years in letting me help with the wrestling program. I enjoy all the coaches that I get to work with. We are truly building and rebuilding some great programs. Sometimes it is just about giving an afternoon of my time, but when you see the smile on the kids faces it is totally worth it. I always feel great after volunteering for the schools,” Dana said. “I help with a tournament that we host at Stride Center here, that is called the MAN Tournament, (Mid America Nationals) it is coming up in December. I do a number of things such as sell t-shirts, arrange the hospitality room, and organize volunteers. It is very fulfilling to help the kids, and to get to be with my own kids is nice too. I don’t have a lot of free time; I just enjoy all my days spent with my kids or helping them succeed. Hard work and accountability cannot be undone. I want to raise good humans, that are not afraid to lead, or follow and serve and that are definitely ready to work hard for the best results. Volunteering is not easy for everyone, but I feel like we can all do something.”
