One thing that parents look for when deciding where to send their kids to school is the community. Is it welcoming for families? Does the community support the school? Those are just some of the questions they ask when choosing a school. Kristie Carlson says that the community and school system in Enid is a perfect fit.
“We love the Enid community,” she said. “It seems big but small-town feel. The Enid community has blessed our business and our kids. We give as much as we can to our community. Enid High School has been such a good fit for our son. The administrators, teachers, and coaches communicate, encourage, challenge, and push Seth to be the best version of himself. Enid High School offers so many opportunities such as the university center, several electives, activities, and equipment for sports to help athletes excel and stay safe.”
Kristie and her husband Scott are the parents of two. Seth is a sophomore at Enid High School. He plays football and baseball, is a member of the choir, and is currently the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Their daughter, Kelby, is a sophomore at the University of Central Oklahoma. Kristie and Scott both work at Advantage Eye Care. Kristie is the business manager, while Scott is an optometrist. They have worked together for twenty-three years.
Athletics and activities have been a big part of their lives over the years. Not only do sports help her kids athletically, but she says it helps them in other ways as well.
“I love being involved,” she said. “It’s such a blessing to have kids. I want to soak it up and make the most of this journey and season. I try to make it to as many events as I can and help as much as I can. We also try to give our kids many opportunities to learn from. Kids learn so much from different activities and sports. I feel our kids have learned determination, patience, structure, how to work hard, how to be a team player, and how to communicate with different personalities. I stay involved as much as I can by going to every activity, cheering, providing food, rides, taking pictures, mentoring, and just helping where I can.”
