A volleyball player for Enid High School, Dezjona Levy enjoys the sport and likes the fact that she is able to compete alongside her friends. She says that is a big reason of why she has continued to play volleyball.
“I used to be very motivated to play volleyball because I just enjoyed the sport,” she stated. “But then being able to be with my friends motivated me to continue playing. The other seniors on my team and I have been playing together for about six years now and playing our last games together means everything to me.”
Levy is in her senior year at Enid. Along with volleyball, she is also a part of the Safety and Health Committee. Throughout her life, Dezjona has had a few people that have had a big impact on her and the person she is today.
“Some of my biggest influences in my life would have to be my mother,” she said. “My mother, Olympia, has always pushed me to work my hardest and never to give up. Also, my older sister, D’Sani, is a big role model in my life because she played volleyball before me and I was able to watch her and that has helped me play better.”
Another person that has played a big role in her life is her volleyball coach, Gabe Watts.
“He is a teacher as well my coach,” she said. “Coach Watts has made my senior year very memorable and made it very worthwhile to play. I did not want to play college ball but playing volleyball this year has made me reconsider the idea.”
Dezjona and her teammates play a number of different teams on the volleyball court throughout the season. But out of all of them, she has one that she enjoys going up against the most.
“I enjoyed beating Bartillsvile the most,” Levy said. “We have lost to them every year except this one, and it was a very satisfying win.”
Wearing the Enid jersey is more than just a uniform to Levy, she says that she is proud to be a reflection of the school and the community.
“It means a lot to represent my team and community because it is our image and reputation that we uphold when we go out in public.”
