Enid High 2023 Softball Preview Presented by Advantage Eye Care

EHS PACER SOFTBALL PERVIEW

There is a new look at Pacer Field!

By Jay Hoberecht

Chris Jensen took over the Pacer softball program in May, 2020.  He had some early struggles, made progress and completed a winning season last year.  Last season the Pacers won the 2022 Academic State Championship.

This season the Pacers have seven seniors, some juniors and sophomores and five freshmen that will compete for playing time.  Quality competition makes a team better!  Coach Jensen likes his team’s diversity and thinks the competition for playing time will make his team tougher now and in the future.  He calls this team the “best talent” he has had in four seasons.  Coach Jensen is assisted by Cheyenne Mays (JV coach), Lori Palmer and Jamal James.

It all starts with pitching and the Pacers have two outstanding girls in the circle.  Seniors Camyrn Patterson and Kate Bezdicek will lead the pitching staff.  Both are veteran players that pitch and play second.

The catchers are led by Chloee Robinson, a four-year starter, who can also play third base.  Three different freshmen will see time behind the plate.

The infield is anchored by first baseman, Kinzley Lebeda, a two-year starter and leader.  Cassidy Patterson and Kenlee Adams will see time at shortstop.  Three other seniors, a junior and a sophomore are competing for infield positions.

The outfield will be patrolled by three seniors, a junior and a sophomore.  Some of the best competition for positions will be in the outfield.

One of the biggest differences this season is a new 60’ by 100’ indoor facility for the softball program.  It includes new locker rooms, three tunnels and an open area for taking ground balls.

It has enhanced the pride in the program and has elevated Pacer softball.

Coach Jensen likes this team and the potential they have.  Pitching and defense are strong.  The Pacers have better team speed led by Kyra Criss, a four-sport letter person.  He talked about staying healthy and peaking at the right time.  Team chemistry is important and the Pacers have a “Big Sis/Little Sis Program”.  They do community projects and support other teams at Enid High School.  Plus, they have some fun together with cookouts and pool parties.

Coach Jensen likes the schedule.  It has several tough non-district games and two tough tournaments.  Get out and enjoy some Pacer softball this season!
