Luke Rogers – A Senior Difference Maker at Enid High School Presented by Enid Axe

By Jay Hoberecht
Luke Rogers is a senior at Enid High School involved in swimming, band (drum
line), FCA and church (Oakwood Christian).

Luke swims the backstroke and 50 Free. He likes the backstroke because
technique is so important. This is the third year Rogers has had a different swim
coach. First year head swim coach, Caroline Theil (Tile), has been great for Rogers
and great for the swim program. Swimmers are putting up personal best times in
swim meets.

Coach Theil says. “Luke has a good work ethic, is a good teammate
and is willing to look at himself in a critical way to improve himself.” Coach Theil
likes the way Rogers strives to improve and thinks it will serve him well in college.
Luke Rogers plays in the EHS band in the drum line. He plans to go to Oklahoma
State University and major in technical production, be a part of the OSU drum line
and continue to compose original music. The OSSAA District Music Contest is
coming up and Rogers will be allowed to compose his own composition to
perform. I talked with Robert Anderson, former EHS band director, and he has
been teaching Luke since sixth grade. Anderson called Rogers “one of the most
outstanding music students at EHS.”

He talked about Rogers’ dedication to both the drum line and swimming and that both activities take a huge commitment of time and effort. Rogers is a good student. Anderson put it best, “Like is humble
and just an all-around good person.

I asked Rogers what advice he might give a freshman. He paused to think about it
and replied stay on top of your studies, do the work, enjoy it, think ahead and
prepare for the future. He paused again and added, “Stay balanced.”
That’s coming from a student-athlete that excels in swimming trying to compete for
State and is composing his own composition for the OSSAA District competition.
Cowboy fans look forward to some exciting drum line performances in Stillwater
the next four years. Luke Rogers will be a Cowboy!
