9 Questions with Enid’s Landon Jung – Presented by RibCrib

Landon Jung has been playing golf “basically since he could walk.”

“I started to play because my dad and grandpa played, and it was a good way to spend time together,” Jung said.

Jung, a sophomore at Enid High School, competes on the Plainsmen varsity golf team and runs cross country. He’s also in show choir.

Jung considers himself to be a lot like his dad, both in physical appearance and the way they approach life.

“We are both just really hard on ourselves and strive for perfection, no matter what,” Jung said. “While playing, it’s definitely a con if I don’t let go of what I did wrong.”

But through the example of his dad, Jung has learned perseverance in stressful situations: “To keep a positive mindset and not snowball after a bad shot, hole or round.”

“After many, many bad tournaments and having moments of throwing fits and giving up, my dad made me realize how bad it looked for me to act like that instead of learning to keep my cool and work on the next shot instead of dwelling on the past,” Jung said.

Jung’s priority goal within the game of golf is to consistently shoot well.

“Well the end goal isn’t to go to college or pro, but for now, it’s just to be the best I can and to shoot under 80 at a tournament, which I have done but need to do consistently,” Jung said.

Jung’s origin in show choir relied on a stroke of luck.

“Well, my friends were all doing show and I had joked about doing it but had no intention of doing it, but my ride home from cross country practice had to go to tryouts so I was forced to show up,” Jung said. “I didn’t even try out. The teacher came up to me afterwards and told me he was going to put me on the roster anyway.”

Jung said it was a worthwhile choice. “It’s definitely grown on me, and I honestly am glad I stuck it out,” Jung said
