Enid’s Blake Jenson – FCA Spotlight – Presented by Slater Mechanical

Blake Jensen…looking forward to his senior year at EHS!

Blake Jensen is a senior at Enid High School and he is looking forward to his senior year as a Plainsmen.  He is so involved that his senior year will flash by very quickly.  He runs track and cross country.  He is part of the EHS show choir and performed in the school musical, Footloose, this past year.  He is part of Student Council, National JuniorHonor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Jensen shared he began running with his Mom, Kellie at a young age.  He began to seriously run in middle school.  He runs the 4X800 meter relay and the two mile race in track and runs cross country in the fall.  I talked with his cross country coach Justin DeClerk about Blake’s senior season.  Coach DeClerk talked about Blake being a “very well-rounded person.”  He has continued to get better each year and has been the team leader.  He has finished one-place out of the state cross country meet the past two years.  

Blake’s parents, Chris and Kellie Jensen, are involved in the EHS FCA group.  Blake likes “being a part of a group that tries to be close to God.”  He likes helping others to be followers.  Blake attended a week of church camp in June and got to see other friends from previous camp experiences.

I talked with Blake about some of his high school experiences that were highlight for him.  He paused a moment and responded that being in the musical, Footloose, was definitely a highlight.  He never thought he would do that.  It took so much time but for him it was well worth it.  He also talked about being at the University of Arkansas competing in a big time atmosphere as a highlight.  He has been first the past two years at the Plainsmen Invitational in August to start the cross country season.  Look for a three-peat!

Blake Jensen wants to run cross country in college.  He still has his senior season to impress coaches.  He mentioned Wichita State University and Rogers State as possible schools he might attend.  

I know the Jensen family so I asked Blake about growing up with twin sisters, Lauren and Sarah, 14.  He looked at me, smiled and said, “Sometimes it’s really fun and sometimes not so much fun!”  Ah, the plight of a big brother! 

FCA is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year.  It all began in Oklahoma in 1954!  That’s another article!
