Q&A with Enid’s Lauren Hatchel – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by FT&H – Mike Hanley

VYPE: What grade are you in, and what sports do you play?
Lauren: I am a sophomore at Enid, and I play volleyball.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
Lauren: My favorite teacher during my freshman year was my math teacher, Mrs. Garis. She didn’t teach us just to help us pass a test; she taught us in a way that ensured we would retain the knowledge for years to come.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Lauren: A teammate who left the biggest impression on me was Kynslee Rogers. Even though she was a senior and I was a freshman, we became friends and she welcomed me into a whole new environment, which helped me become more comfortable on my team.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?
Lauren: My sport has taught me to encourage others and to be a leader while also reaching my personal goals. This has overall made me a better person.

VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
Lauren: An accomplishment I am proud of is being on the varsity volleyball team my freshman year and getting to play at regionals.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Lauren: I would like to give a shout-out to my former club volleyball coach, Trey Powell. He pushed me to be better and had high expectations of us as a team. I would not be the athlete I am today if it were not for him.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?
Lauren: My all-time favorite meal is probably something high in protein, like steak.

VYPE: Who inspires you?
Lauren: My close friend and former teammate, McKinley, inspires me because she pushes herself every day to be the best she can be in this sport.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?
Lauren: A professional athlete I look up to is Jordyn Poulter. I look up to her because she is a setter like me and won the first-ever US Olympic gold medal for volleyball.
