On the soccer field at Enid High School, senior forward Shelby Ramos plays with a quiet intensity that starts long before kickoff. Her game is built on more than speed or skill; it’s grounded in gratitude, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people who believe in her.
Her first source of strength is the one closest to home.
“My family motivates me,” she said. “I wouldn’t be where I am without them, and their encouragement inspires me to work hard and stay committed to my goals.”
At the center of that support stands her mom, whose example shapes how Shelby approaches both life and sport.
“My mom is my ultimate role model,” Shelby explained. “Her strength, resilience, and support have driven me to become the best version of myself.”
On campus, Coach Cabada has become another key influence, guiding her growth as both a player and a student.
“Coach Cabada’s encouragement and guidance have allowed me to become a better player and student,” she said.
Success in soccer, for Shelby, hasn’t come from talent alone. It has taken early mornings, focused practices, and a willingness to be pushed beyond her comfort zone.
“To become successful in my sport, it has taken discipline, consistency, and a supportive coach that constantly pushes my team and me beyond what we believed our limits were,” she said.
One moment, though, stands above the rest: being chosen as captain by her teammates.
“The highlight of my career would be being chosen to be a captain by my teammates,” Shelby said. “To know that they trust and believe in me to lead by example on and off the field is so surreal.”
Her leadership also means noticing the players who don’t always get the spotlight.
“I believe the least appreciated player on my team is our goalie,” she said. “Whether it’s a mistake or an outstanding save, I can always count on our goalie to remain composed, communicate, and be supportive.”
Between HOSA, schoolwork, and soccer, Shelby has learned to manage her time with purpose. When she pulls on her Enid jersey, she knows she represents more than herself and that knowledge pushes her to compete with integrity, respect, and heart.
