Sarah Bonebrake is a junior at Enid High School and a member of the varsity cross country team coached by Steve Bloom. Sarah started running when she was in middle school and has loved competing ever since.
“I have been running cross country since eighth grade, so roughly four years,” Sarah said. “The Enid cross country team is one big family. My teammates have pushed me to become a better runner. We always support and cheer each other on. There’s never a dull moment during practice; it would be impossible to get through practice without all the jokes and laughs.”
While Sarah is competing in cross country, the junior stays focused on the most important part of being a student-athlete.
“Academics are very important to me. I hold myself to high standards when it comes to grades,” Sarah said. “My favorite subject is math. I like how there are specific steps to follow to get the right answer.”
Sarah finds the time to be involved in other activities around campus including National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“I recently started becoming more involved in my school’s FCA program,” said Sarah.
When she gets the chance, Sarah said her favorite place to run may not be what you expect.
“My favorite place to run are long dirt roads, they make for the best runs. It allows me to clear my thoughts and relax. Whenever I start to feel stressed, I like to go on runs,” said Sarah.
After she graduates in 2023 Sarah plans to attend college and major in elementary education. Finding some free time can be tough, but when she does find it, Sarah has several things she enjoys doing.
“Between school, work, and cross country I don’t get much free time. When I do, however, I like to paint, read, and spend time with my friends and family,” said Sarah.
