VYPE: What are your goals this season?
Emily: My goals for this season is to build a stronger bond with my teammates and coaches.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Emily: What soccer has taught me is definitely determination. Everyday is about working hard and patience because your time to shine will eventually come.
VYPE: What does your team mean to you?
Emily: What my team means to me is we are a group of girls that despite our differences we can come together to accomplish our own and team goals.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Emily: The person who inspires me the most is Silvia Garcia, my former coach because she took an interest in me and invested her time and effort into making me a better player and person. She taught me to never give up even when the world was crumbling around on me and I truly admire her for that.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Emily: The teammate who left the biggest impression on me is Marisa Chavez because it’s not easy being a captain and maintaining everyone’s respect through consistent work ethic, high performance, and bringing the team closer together with her leadership.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Emily: My favorite part of being on a team is definitely the team dinners since those are the moments where we are truly bonding and getting to know each other more
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Emily: If I could take a summer vacation then I would definitely go to Thailand and take my cousin Natalia Nieto Vargas to explore new foods and the new culture.
VYPE: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Emily: The best advice I have received is from my coach Laura Claybrook is to draw my self-worth from within and not from what other people think of me or how I perform. I am worthy simply by being myself. She is truly a coach that I can lean on whenever I have to let myself get vulnerable.
VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish. Emily: I would like to say thank you to all of my coaches, teammates, and family because if it wasn’t for them I would’ve given up playing the sport that I love and enjoy.
