Katelyn Honigsberg EHS Volleyball

Katelyn Honigsberg, a Junior at Enid High began playing volleyball her sophomore year.
She didn’t have dreams of being a key player. “I tried out to fail, not to make the team,” she said. “I wanted to be the manager but I ended up making the team.”
The unending encouragement of her teammates and coaches is Katelyn’s favorite part of being part of a team. She is thankful for Coach Watts and the senior players who believed in her when she joined the team as a sophomore.
Katelyn says, “it is a magical feeling when I get a good dig and I feel the little burn on my platform form where I got it up.” Katelyn’s drive has allowed her overcome what she refers to as “vertical limitation.” At 5’2” one of Katelyn’s best memory was when she was finally able to play front row. “The ball was already dead but I hit it and make it in,” she said.
With every success there are also failures. “You can give it your all and still fail, not everything is a lesson. Sometimes things just happened and there isn’t anything you can do to stop it,” she said. When life throws these moments at her, Katelyn looks to the inspiration of teammate and friend, Baylee Ross. “If Baylee doesn’t get a good hit she never gives up, she just goes back for another.” Katelyn strives to also keep going and never give up.
Katelyn stays focused on her education. She maintains academics allowing her to play volleyball and participate in Student Council and National Junior Honor Society.
When not on the court Katelyn can be found writing. She is a self published author of YA fiction books. Keep an eye out for this outstanding player and student at Enid High.
