There is someone in each of our lives that we look up to. It could someone we are close to like a family member or friend, or it could be a celebrity or professional athlete. Meleah Meyer says that the biggest role model in her life is someone she is very close to.
“I would have to say that a big role model of mine would have to be my sister, Rachel,” she said. “She accomplishes anything she sets her mind to and she has shown me how hard work pays off.”
Meleah is a junior at Enid High School where she is a member of the soccer team. She plays left and right back in the sport she has played for most of her life. She began playing when she was in pre-K and she says that over that time she has grown as an athlete and as a person.
“I have put in a lot to get to where I am today,” she said. “It has taken determination and drive to want to perform the best that I can be. To keep pushing and trying new things when I think that I can’t. Also having a good relationship with my teammates and building trust with them has made me 10 times more successful.”
Playing soccer for so long has opened the door to a lot of personal achievements and success for Meyer. While she has enjoyed all of it, Meleah says that there is one moment that stands out above all others.
“One of my biggest accomplishments in my soccer career was wearing a varsity jersey my freshman year,” she stated. “It was a great feeling seeing all the hard work and preparation begin to pay off.”
Though she appreciates her sister, Meleah says that there is another person that has played a big part in her becoming the athlete that she is today.
“My favorite teacher is my strength and conditioning coach, coach Baldwin,” she said. “He has taught me to keep going even on the bad days. He pushes me to be the best that I can be and isn’t afraid to call me out when I’m wrong.”
