Before the first serve, Nayeli Quezada carries more than a game plan onto the volleyball court. The Enid High School junior carries the pride of her family, the expectations she sets for herself and a commitment to represent her school with purpose every time she wears the jersey.

“My motivation is getting the opportunity to represent my family and school when I step on the court,” Quezada said. “Having that support system makes me want to push past my limits and give everything that I can give.”

Quezada has developed into a confident, fundamentally sound player through discipline, mental toughness and countless repetitions. She understands that success is built in the details, from hitting and passing to serving and setting. That dedication earned her All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore, a recognition that reinforced her belief that her work was making a difference.

“Being recognized alongside some of the best players in our league so early in my high school career showed that my hard work was paying off, and it gave me the confidence to step up as a leader on the court,” Quezada said.

Her parents and Karen Gomez are among the people who have helped shape that mindset. Quezada said they remind her to remain positive when matches become difficult and to play with confidence and pride.

She also credits former freshman weight training coach Jana Robertson for helping her discover a new level of strength. Robertson’s demanding workouts, especially plyometrics and heavier weights, challenged Quezada to move beyond what she believed she could accomplish.

“I still think about what she would tell me every time I step foot into the weight room without her,” Quezada said.

In practice, Quezada enjoys competing against Makenna Wright, whose serve and blocking ability make every repetition demanding. She also praised teammate Amyah Odom for her consistent blocking, improving timing and effort in the weight room.

Away from school volleyball, Quezada will play for Oklahoma Glory Volleyball Club and is involved in STUCO. Her ability to manage those commitments comes down to organization, responsibility and using school hours wisely.

For Quezada, representing Enid is not something she takes lightly. “Wearing our jersey comes with a lot of responsibility, especially carrying myself with both respect and dignity on and off the court.”
